Creative Background

A LIFE OF MAKING.

Gillie K. Bear Heart has worked across visual art, concept design, invention, clothing ideas, and creative spaces.

He looks at what an idea could become, how it might work, and what it would take to bring it to life. He has also helped other people think through their own designs and concepts.

His interests have reached from California to New York, but the work is grounded in personal initiative and a willingness to keep learning.

AN INVITATION TO SEE THE WORK UP CLOSE.

A production-office visit while exploring an independent denim idea.

While considering a denim-jeans line, Gillie was invited to Manhattan by Cydney, Donna Karan's production lead manager.

Gillie flew to New York and toured the DKNY production office. Cydney and other members of the production team also showed him Manhattan and different New York City boroughs.

The visit offered a look inside a working fashion-production environment and helped him consider possibilities for his own apparel-design plans.

Historical clarification: This was an invited office visit and tour. Gillie did not work directly for or with Donna Karan or DKNY.

An Independent Creative Office

LATITUDE ZERO.

A California home for his design ambitions.

Gillie considered the possibility of apparel-design offices on both coasts—in Manhattan and California. He ultimately established Latitude Zero in Oceanside, California, in 2006.

Its creative focus included footwear, activewear, and denim-jeans ideas. It also gave him a place to work on concepts and help others develop theirs.

Beyond the Studio

SPACES. PEOPLE. PURPOSE.

Not all creative work ends as a product. Some of it lives in places, relationships, and what we choose to give back.

Interior Spaces

ROOMS THAT HOLD A STORY.

Gillie has decorated apartment interiors with Native American art and memorabilia, creating spaces with the feeling of small museums. The objects, their arrangement, and the memories they carry all matter to the result.

Helping Others

MAKING ROOM FOR OTHER PEOPLE.

Alongside his own ideas, Gillie has helped others explore creative concepts and designs. He has also supported charitable causes. Those efforts reflect a belief that experience should be useful beyond one person.

The Work Continues

CREATE WITH PURPOSE. CARRY SOMETHING FORWARD.

His background in creative work is one part of his story. As founder of Apache Bronco, Gillie now also works to bring California Apaches together and protect the family histories and memories future generations deserve to know.
