A RESPONSIBILITY TO REMEMBER.
California
People deserve to know where they come from.
Gillie K. Bear Heart founded Apache Bronco around that belief. The work is simple to say, even when it is hard to do: save what remains, write down what can be proven, listen to the people who carried the stories, and leave a record the next generation can use.
His work brings together family stories, photographs, records, oral history, research, and the questions that still do not have clear answers.
For Bear Heart, honesty matters. Family memory matters. Written records matter. But they are not always the same thing. When something is known, say it. When it is uncertain, say that too. The goal is not to make the story bigger. The goal is to make the record clearer.
This work is bigger than one website, one project, or one event. Apache Bronco gives the work a lasting home so the history, the records, and the family stories can stay together and be carried forward.
“Remember who you are. Remember where you come from.”-Gillie Bear Heart, Founder, Apache Bronco
